"Tuku's death has left me feeling challenged to carry on with that mature Afro Jazz sound" HD

Hondoyedzomba David

An interview with an OyOsMusic artist Hondoyedzomba David popularly known as HD revealed how much of a nurturing and inspiring artist Oliver Mtukudzi was to artists of the younger generation as he remembered all his encounters with the legend.

"Tuku taught me to put my name and originality first saying always put rurimi rwaamai kumberi . He is the man behind the stage name "HD " As he hinted me on how he would introduce himself as Mtukudzi Oliver, not Oliver Mttukudzi and how much it would make an impact on identity as an African artist even abroad hence the name "HD" meaning Hondoyedzomba David"

"I performed twice with him when I was still a budding musician back in Bindura and Jazz 105 alongside Kireni Zulu at an all solo performance show," said HD in hindsight".

"Oliver and his sidekick picky Kasamba of the black spirits (who is also based in Bindura) were the people behind my first Harare gig at the then highly profiled Jazz 105 when Oliver Mutukudzi told Josh to give me a gig just like that"

The late Oliver Mtukudzi's contributions to our music industry are second to none and even in his grave, he continues to do so. May his Soul Rest In Peace.
