Tuku Redefines What a National Hero Is In Zimbabwe

Oliver Mtukudzi - Zimbabwean National Hero

Zimbabwean legendary singer Oliver Mtukudzi who recently passed away has been given the national hero status.

As the world mourned the death of a resoundingly great icon in Oliver Mtukudzi, Zimbabweans called for the National Hero status to be bestowed upon this amazing son of Zimbabwe.

Even though it was no surprise that Tuku was made a national Hero it is however not the norm in the Zimbabwean custom for someone who did not fight the liberation struggle to be awarded such an honour but Tuku was an exception, his contribution to the country was too big to be ignored.

The 66-year-old contributed immensely to the Zimbabwean art culture, it is thus safe to say he was Zimbabwe's most renowned and internationally recognised cultural icon of all time.

Samanyanga was a philanthropist, Human Rights Activist and UNICEF Goodwill ambassador for Southern Africa region just to mention a few.

Undoubtedly Tuku is a National Hero and as such Zimbabwe mourns an irreplaceable part of its culture.

Some of his Music is available on OyOsMusic for purchasing.
