Music serves a purpose

Reciving an award Oliver Mtukudzi
Zimbabwe and pop music legend Oliver Mtukudzi said music should be sang for a reason for each person in living in a particular community.

Addressing audience at The Zimbabwe Leadership Awards (ZILA) conference held at Crown Plaza, Harare, Mtukudzi said young and upcoming artists these days compose songs that have no meaning to the lives of people.

He regards those young stars as missing the art of music, he often says that you don't get to sing a song if you have nothing to say.

“Well, I'm glad to say that my music has served its purpose because music is designed to at least trigger discussion among us people.

“Just like news, music should set the agenda for every community, people should find answers, solutions or be aware of the message being communicated by the artist,” said Mtukudzi.

He said he is blessed enough to understand why his music has touched lives of many is Zimbabwe.

“If you understand your purpose, then it shouldn't be a burden at all. It should be a commitment of
what you're supposed to be doing to serve that next heart, to heal that broken heart which is why God gave you the talent, which is the purpose of giving life to the people.

Oliver Mtukudzi’s success does not solely lie in his storied music but also in his dedication to his role as a messenger, inspiring and giving hope to thousands of people around the world.
