Music is a commercial business that can contribute to GDP laments Edith Weutonga

Edith Weutonga
For a long time the Zimbabwean music industry has been on the downfall and with the new dispensation, there is a need to revive it. OyOsNews had an exclusive interview with Edith Weutonga to discuss the potential of the Zim music industry.

She said, “There's potential to an industry. For there to be one, our government must acknowledge that the arts/music is an industry that needs support to kick off. Our government must begin to appreciate and acknowledge that music in Zimbabwe is a business with a commercial value that can contribute to the GDP if supported. There’s need for an instrument that seeks to protect the artists in Zimbabwe, one of that will enable a higher local content% so that all musicians can enjoy airplay. An instrument that will punish anyone found selling our IP on the streets.”

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is a monetary measure of the market value of all the final goods and services produced over a period of time, often yearly or quarterly.
