Faces a must watch, the reflection of reality play

Gift Tapiwa Marovatsanga
Politics, economy, religion and social life are all at the core of Gift Tapiwa Marovatsanga’s Faces which depicts the reality of day to day issues.

‘A Woman with Emotional Scars’ a solo play that one cannot afford to blink is performed by energetic, mesmerizing and riveting Nyarie Nhongonhema who seems to never shy away from the camera.

In the play features a lady who is mentally affected and being haunted by memories after encountering sexual abuse from her father. She is living in denial and she criticises every good and bad things she came across.

Abuse being the major theme emanating from the play, it reflects how abuse from close relatives is becoming a normality in the society. Betray is another theme as well as the ‘haves’ take advantage of the ‘have-nots’.

The church is one social institution which is being directly attacked as leaders of the church wear different faces to suit different places they operate in. They are in dilemma of having an identity crisis in the church, they are good people and at the outside world they are sinners, they are living in hypocrisy.
