The power of music

Music is a universal language that can be understood by all humans it can dynamically engages the emotional and spiritual part of being a human. It offers comfort and therapy to those suffering conditions such as brain damage and depression.

What is the impact made by Zimbabwean artists on their fans and the people at large? Most artist in the music industry have become so much concerned with the aspect of making money that they don't even make songs with meaning anymore.

After randomly asking people in the streets, a lot are not satisfied with the type of music being produced by artists saying their songs are immature and have no meaning to bread and butter issues.

“Gone are the days when we had classic jams from John Chibadura, Andy Brown, Simon Chimbetu, Paul Matavire to mention a few. There were artists that we could sit down and listen to as a family, they took their time to polish their music but many artists of these days especially the so-called Zimdancehall takes less time to review their music before final production,” said one of the respondent .

There were also mixed feelings with other respondents who said because of the economic hardships artists are producing music that will quickly draw the attention of people to make them popular hence luring them to their shows.

It should be a challenge for artists to provide music that will have impact to people’s lives as well as entertaining them.

For some local classic jams and Zimdancehall music can be downloaded and purchased on OyOsMusic. A Zimbabwean music online store by simply visiting www.oyosmusic.co.zw
