International market a hub for local artists

Jamaican Dancehall superstar Jah Cure and Jah Prayzah

Local artists are often out of discussions about the organisation of the art world. Any debate on how to foster an art scene should start with how to attract international artists. Once the process is started it can quickly become a virus circle with good artists from abroad.

Established local artists like Jah Prayzah have focused more on traditional art music in the past are already paying homage to international stars such as Platinum Diamond, Davido, Jah Cure, Mafikizolo among others.

Evidence of artist ability to attract visitors from other continents is already apparent with other artists producing quality music to attract foreign market.

Collaborations with regional and international artists have helped Jah Prayzah take his music to the world and raise the country's flag high although the singer would want to believe digitalisation has been critical in helping music move fast and reach all corners of the world.

At a press conference in the United Kingdom mid last year during the London Summer Festival, Jah Prayzah said digitalisation had made selling and distribution of music much easier.

Zimbabwean artistes should not limit themselves to Zimbabwe fans but should produce music that can make them have more fans and go international.
