The call for society to Embrace It!

Our greatest tragic flaw is probably how often we forget to take a look in the social mirror every now and then to gaze at the things that most people often tend to overlook. Every day new voices spring up to help remind us of how wide our social circle of influence is and quite recently I had the pleasure of meeting two of such brilliant, young new voices. They have risen up to fight for social awareness and consciousness on issues pertaining to diversity, body image, autism, albinism, embracing talents and mental health. I want you to meet the two young women behind the all-new Embrace It Movement: Natasha Mawera and Chiedza Mashonganyika.

So at this point, you might be asking "What exactly is the Embrace It Movement all about?" To put it simply, the Embrace It Movement is a Self-love and awareness campaign aiming to encourage people to embrace not only themselves but the people around them in every form. It is the brain child of Natasha Mawera and Chiedza Mashonganyika. This campaign will run for about 2 months with various topics being discussed each week on their blog and instagram page. There was a sub campaign running from the 5th of June to the 18th for Autism and Albinism Awareness. We have and are hoping to continue having workshops/presentations at high schools.

At the end of this campaign, they aim to have an Embrace It showcase which will really be an Artistic evening to basically tell the Embrace It story in the form of various art. Starting this campaign is a way of trying to mend that problem and giving people a platform not only to learn about things affecting people around us but also to express and speak out on matters close to their heart.

"We are young, but we have come to understand that mindsets need to be shifted at a young age for the sake of our future. Natasha Mawera had this to say "We are focusing on trying to challenge the views society has imprinted in our minds for so long. Our difference is what gives us strength as the Human race." - Embrace It

The work of the Movement encompasses everyone in society and if you are one who would like to add to the work of these young individuals you can gon on and have a look at their blog on embraceitmovement.wordpress.com
