OyOsMusic Officially Launch Brand

It’s not every day that somebody comes up with an idea that is set to revolutionize the makeup of an entire industry as we know it. When those moments do occur, however, they deserve to be celebrated. The incarnation of such an idea is none other than Zimbabwe’s first ever online music store – OyOsMusic. The brand was created by 14-time ICT Award winning company, ZIMHOST Webdesigners and is set to have its first official physical launch on the 14th of July at Star FM Studios. So far the store has provided a whole new level of marketing for Zimbabwean musicians and dished out its first batch of quarterly payouts to their respective signed artists.

At this point, one may find themselves asking several questions about the platform. Well, in simple terms, OyOsMusic is an online music platform that allows the purchase of local music using several integrated payment systems which include Ecocash, Telecash, Mastercard, Visa, Zimswitch, Paypal and PayNow. The brand was voted the best innovation idea at the POTRAZ and Ministry of ICT Innovation awards in Bulawayo. Following this success, OyOsMusic was then partnered with Star FM, Zimpapers (Herald and HMetro) and also ZBC who are all responsible for advertising and marketing the brand. The brand so far has managed to sign several popular artists who include Sulumani Chimbetu, Pastor G, Hwindi President, The UFIC Choir, Killer T, Stunner, Tocky Vibes, Takura, ExQ, Mathias Mhere, Janet Manyowa, Minister Michael Mahendere, Guspy Warrior, Nox, Prince Musarurwa just to name a few. To date, they have signed over a hundred local artists racked up a playlist of over 6000 songs available to all of its users on the website (www.oyosmusic.co.zw) or the Android app available on the Google Play Store (“OyOsMusic”).

Of course, the store has brought with it several benefits for the nation at large. The store has been instrumental in the fight against music piracy. By providing an easily accessible, fast and convenient way for people to legally access local music anywhere in the world, it has given Zimbabweans an alternative medium to access music apart from the “market” of CDs and DVDs strewn out across the streets. In addition, it ensures that the quality tailored by the artist whilst in the recording studio remains incorruptible. Listeners are only exposed to the authentic sound of their favorite artist and nothing less. OyOsMusic has continued to strive to make sure the artist’s sweat turns into well-deserved profit.

The store also helps to expand the scope of which the voices of our local artists can be heard. So far, that scope is worldwide and they have managed to ensure a safe, efficient and consumer friendly way of making homegrown music accessible in every crevice that their voice can reach. At the very least they have managed to get certain parts of the music sector back on track. The platform also keeps you up to date with some of the activities that our local artists are up to on their social media platforms. Daily, new artists that sign as well as long-standing artists that are currently making waves out there have posts on their activities uploaded on the OyOsMusic Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Anybody who feels compelled to keep up with the OyOsMusic artists can visit the page at any time.

The launch event on the 14th of July is not only a means of bringing OyOsMusic to the public but also celebrating the progress that the store has already made. The event is set to start around and also feature several guests such as. The whole idea of the OyOsMusic platform is to build something with the artists in mind. It is a means of celebrating home-grown music and also giving back to the artists that have brewed the love in our hearts for local music that many of us bear today. If you happen to be in the area for the occasion, stop by and if you find yourself caught on the wrong side of your schedule attending this event, at least visit the music platform yourself and see what our local musicians have to offer you whilst in the comfort of your own home. Regardless, Zimbabwe has something to celebrate as each day we move steps closer towards creating a more flexible local environment for our artists to really shine.
